Why does excel open two copies of the same file when I open it? It will do it if I double click the file or if I open excel and go to file open etc. it will load the file twice? Any suggestions. Thanks

In the top left hand corner of Excel, does it say File:1 and File:2? Is so, you have probably accidentally selected Window|New at some stage. To get rid of the second copy, click on the Grey x in the top right hand corner, and save the file. Next time you open it, there should only be one copy.
