Shared Files

Do you know how many users can be using a shared file? And if you are able to convert it from a shared file to an unshared file if there are people are in the file?
Thanks

an excel shared file can have a max of one person in it at any time.
it simply means many people have the ability to access it.
if someone is already in the file the user will be given the option of read only .

Bonnie, my experience is that multiple people can use the file at once and make saveable changes to the file. There is a conflict option in case two people try to make changes to the same cell. It seems people don't see the updates until the file is saved.

You can change the workbook to 'unshared' by clicking on data (I think might be Tools) -> Share Workbook....From there you uncheck the box stating whether the workbook is to be shared or not. Excel requests that you save the file when switching modes imediately. You'll also notice that the pop-up has two tabs, click on the second tab to define how you deal with conflicts, when the autosave should kick in, etc...

Good luck & Cheers,

Nate
