Tab between cells

When I hit the tab to move between adjacent cells, it takes me from (for example) A1 to P1 or AE1. I want to tab from one column to the next without jumping around the worksheet. I have made no major changes in the options, why did it start doing this and how do I fix it? Thanks!

Is your worksheet protected? If so, tabbing will take
you to the unlocked cells.

Thanks for your speedy reply.
No, its not protected that I know of. I highlighted the whole sheet, clicked format, cells, protection and cleared the lock box. I then restarted the application.

Have you selected a cell range prior to tabbing?

No, I am trying to enter info into 4 adjacent columns. I type in one, tab to the next. But it send the cusor WAY over to column P or AE or some other bizarre spot. so I have to choose the adjacent column with the mouse which is very time consuming (and aggravating!)

Does this worksheet have a macro?

No macros, brand new worksheet. I did check to see though.

You said you didn't make any "major" changes in the Options.
Check to make sure the Transition Navigation Keys are not activated.
Tools...Options...Transition...remove check on Transition Navigation Keys.
