Search for links

Posted by JC on December 14, 2001 3:04 PM

When I open a file it promts me to update with links from another file. Of course I am familiar with this function of excel, but I have no idea how to locate the links. I didn't create the file, and if there are any links in the file I need to remove them....can someone help me find them?

Thanks<

To see where your workbook is linking, go to Edit, Links and that will display what workbooks are linked to the workbook you have open. If you search Microsoft's support site, you can find an add-in to download that will help you delete links automatically. Otherwise it can be a little tricky to find them all.

Unfortunately this doesn't help. I'm not looking to find what the file is linked to - I need to find where in the file the link is embeded. Anyone else have any thoughts? My only current idea is to change the view to show formulas and manualy search out the links.

One thing i did. Select all sheets, Edit, Find, look for something like

=[

or something like that, it should take you to the formula(s) that has links to external books.
