Import Excel in Access

I am trying to import an excel file into Access 97. I keep getting error messages stating a type conversion failure. The occurs in a majority of cells that contian a 9 digit phone number, with no dashes, spaces, or (). I have tried various formats and still cannot avoid the error. Any suggestions?

Chad --
Before you import, define/design a table that has eexactly the same fields as your Excel "table". You'll have a field Phone whose data type can be Text. I believe importing into the predefined table will solve your problem.
