Pivot Table limitations

Mr Excel and the Excel World:
I'm working out of Excel 2000 and have a inventory file that has 15 thousands rows,3 columns. When trying to do a pivot table I get the following message:
"A field in your source data has more unique items than can be used in a pivot table"
Is there any whay to get around this limitation?

Thanks, Phil

One of your data fields has more than 8,000 unique
items. This field cannot be used in the PAGE, ROW,
or COLUMN area of your PivotTable. You can create
a PivotTable from this data list with this field
in the DATA area alone.
