Cells containing macros are not updated

My workbook has calls a VBA macros in cell functions. Worked great when I first inserted them. The trouble is that when I close the file and reopen it, the cells values are different, or the macro isn't called at all. If I go into the formula window and just hit "enter" it recalculates the correct value again.
Can I force Excel to update macro cells automatically?
