This spreadsheet seemed simple at the outset and yet I am having a really tough time with it.

I need to create a column which has one of three possible text values in its cells: yes, no, or n/a. What I need to do is assign values to the yes, no or n/a so that I can get the total percentage of 'yes' answers while excluding 'n/a' answers from the calculation.

(example: if D2 is yes, D3 is no, D4 is n/a, D5 is no, and D6 is yes; I need to figure out how to have a cell displaying 50%; say in cell C2,)

I can't even figure out how to assign values to the text, let alone how to set it up in order to get the percentages I need. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome

One way:

=COUNTIF(D2:D6,"yes")/(COUNTA(D2:D6)-COUNTIF(D2:D6,"n/a"))
