Hi all

My work is still on office 97 so I am having trouble trimming the fat off some of my workbooks. Is there a simple way to replace the newer AVERAGEIF statement so I can run the same function on 97.

i need the function to look at 1 row and average the values that are below one of 4 headings. So when repeated I will have four total at the end of the row that relate to each heading. This is to allow me to change the headings.

thanks in advance

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
You can try the formula in D4, it's an array formula so you will have to hit control+shift+enter when you accept the formula. Excel will put the curly brackets at each end of the formula after you do this. You can not type in the curly brackets manually it will not work.

This all assumes array formulas were around in Excel 97 as well as the average and if functions. I didn't even know what functions were when I had Excel 97, I don't even think I used Excel 97 back then, probably just Word.

Good luck, let me know if you need any more help.
