This behavior has been going on for some time now, and I have not found anything on any thread or forum that can help. If I simply drag a figure, button, or shape, Excel acts as if I were holding control and duplicates the object at the dragged location. However, it does not act exactly as when one holds control. If you select a shape and press control while dragging, you'll notice you can still see the original shape throughout the drag and drop process, and an outline of the object is dragged with the cursor. However, in my case, the original shape itself moves when dragged (as if just moving the shape), but then a duplicate object also reappears at the original location when the object is released at the new location. So I have to drag the shape, chart, or button and then delete the original, which is annoying and also stacks up the button/chart/shape number on the "back end" with each drag and drop.

Any thoughts?

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Sounds like something that might be fixed by uninstalling and re-installing. Never really heard of this kind of behavior before. Just out of curiosity. If you were to use the keyboard arrow keys to move the objects, would it still duplicate?

Solution
Many thanks for the quick reply, and for the good suggestion. When I use keyboard arrow keys to move, the shape is not duplicated. I'll give an uninstall/reinstall a try. I'll let you know how it goes when I have a moment to actually do it.
