Morning all,

I have a list of dates in excel that look like the below (but there are around 4000 rows spanning a decade). I need to be able to filter by year and month to see employee start dates properly. However, I cannot do that as its not giving me the option of a date filter, only a text filter. How do I change this please?

12/01/2016
10/01/2015
14/05/2014

Thanks

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
Excel isnt seeing your dates as true dates. Try highlighting the column containing the dates and press text to columns button then finish.

I guess they're text and not dates then. Try the following:

1. Highlight the whole column
2. On the data ribbon, click on Text to Columns
3. Click Next > and Next > again
4. Select Date and make sure the format is DMY
5. Click Finish

That should re-format the column as dates (hopefully)
