Error in Pivot table with external database

I am using MS Excel/Access 2007. Using insert pivot table option in the ribbon bar, in the "Create Pivot Table dialog", I am choosing the option external data source to connect to a query in my existing Access2007 database. In the DataLink properties dialog, I choose the default option and clicked OK and thereafter in the "Create Pivot Table dialog box", no connection name is visible. In the data link properties dialog, If I click on the test connection button, I get an error msg "test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. catastrophic failure"

I am unable to create pivot table by connecting to any of the Access DB be of 2003/2007 version present on my computer.

Pls advise solution.
