I need to find the row number of the text "Total" in column A. Note that there is also the text "Totals" in the rows above which should be ignored. Thanks for any help on this.

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
How about
Code:
Sub FindTotal()
   Dim Fnd As Range
   Set Fnd = Range("A:A").find("total", , , xlWhole, , , False, , False)
   If Not Fnd Is Nothing Then MsgBox Fnd.Row
End Sub

.. or possibly this?
=MATCH("Total",A:A,0)
