I have a spead sheet, showing the contractor costs involved in a project and another showing the building costs.

For example: lets say I have data to say that the contracting costs are always 25% of the building costs, and that the (contractor) spend will occur the year before building commences.

Using a VLOOKUP on the project number, is there any way for me to have a formula that will calculate the 25% of the building costs and place it in the year prior to when building commences?

Please not I will have about 500 projects with different years and spends, so I really need it to be automatic.

Thank you in advance.

You haven't given us much detail about your sheet layout and data. In the absence of that, the best I can suggest is to see if you can adapt the ideas in this thread where amounts had to be inserted certain periods after and event.

If you cannot adapt from the above, then perhaps you could use
Excel jeanie
or
Colo's HTML Maker
to post a small screen shot of part of your data and explain what you need in relation to that scree shot.
