For MS-Excel Professional 2016, I tried to get help from a place to click called "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do". I have numerous rows of dates right-justified in one column, 9/19/2010, 9/20/2010, 9/21/2010, etc. - each date in its own cell and now I'd like to fill in more dates down the rows to the more recent year of 2018. The instructions were very lacking in this "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do" space. I tried highlighting 3 dates and highlighted a few empty cells below to test it to fill in the pattern and it didn't work. I think their instruction is for people who have prior knowledge of this version. It says something about "no data in the cells next to the data highlighted" or something. I don't get what I'm supposed to do. Thanks.

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Essentially FlashFill is used when doing something to the column next to it, removing a date etc from a string, it can not look above and fill down, it can only look across and fill down, hope this explains it a little better
