i think what i am trying to do is pretty simple but i cant figure it out. Basically i have two totals i want to add....so =A4+B4

Sometimes B4 will be blank but i still want to show the value of A4 with this formula.

So in some cases =10+20 equals 30
in other cases =10+(blank value) equals 10

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
If B4 is really empty, it will work even though it is blank.
What is happening now?
If you are getting a #VALUE error, that means that something else is in there, like a single space or something else.
If that is the case, how is B4 being populated (if it is a formula, please provide your formula)?

cgendron, Good afternoon.

When you say "blank" it means equal to "" or is equal to space?

To avoid any problem, try to use: =SUM(A4:B4)

Is that what you want?

I hope it helps.

Ya i'm getting a value error. Weird because i swear it wasnt doing that the other day. But yes B4 gets populated from a formula =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A7,Sheet3!$A$12:$K$26,1,FALSE)),"",VLOOKUP(A7,Sheet3!$A$12:$K$26,2,FALSE))
if a selection is made in A5

I guess its giving me that because i'm trying to add a field that is blank that has a formula in it?
