hlookup summarise multiple columns - HELP

Hi,

I am trying to automise effort calculations for a project by phase (the columns in the spreadsheet hold days per week per resource type). As the phase can vary in time, I've created a header which indicates the phase. I need "something" :) to look up the header to determine which phase and then summarize all the days that are under the columns with the same headers (the header is in row 1, the days start in row 19 (and following) -> there is a graphic display of the phases and dates in between (not sure if this is relevant)).

Any ideas?

or when using Internet Explorer just put borders around your data in Excel and copy those cells into your post

None of these seem to work for me. Maybe because I'm using a Mac?

In a simple graph the data would look as following

Phase (Header) PP PP PP PP BP BP BP BP RS RS RS RS RS RS ...


Resource Type

Project Manager 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5
Functional Consultant 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3
Developer 5 5 5 5


So the function would have to look up the project phase ie BP (Blueprint - length of these phases can vary) and then summarise the days per resource type for this phase and it would be posted on a separate worksheet.

Hope this makes sense?
