Working on a table where i have a cell that eventually will have "yes" entered in it. once Yes has been entered a date is then entered. Can i use a logic test where when "yes" is true it inserts the date?

this is what i have now ...

=IF(V17="yes","d/mm/yyyy","")

but d/mm/yyyy is what comes out not the actual date?
Can this be done or am i dreaming?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.

It depends on what date you mean. If the date is typed manually into a cell, then yes, you could do this (assuming the date was typed into cell X1)...

=IF(V17="yes",TEXT(X1,"d/mm/yyyy","")

However, if the date comes from one of the DATE functions, you can still do the above, for example...

=IF(V17="yes",TEXT(NOW(),"d/mm/yyyy","")

but the date will change every day when the sheet is recalculated.
