Hi,

I'm looking for help on a formula to look up a row based on a cell value and return the average of adjacent cells from that row.

eg: look up Duck and return the average of cells.

Duck214134
Chicken453634
Dog243135

<colgroup><col width="64" span="7" style="width:48pt"> </colgroup><tbody>
</tbody>

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
Perhaps:

Excel 2012
ABCDEFG
1Duck214134
2Chicken453634
3Dog243135
4
5
6
7
8WordAverage
9Duck2.5

<colgroup><col style="width: 25pxpx"><col><col><col><col><col><col><col></colgroup><thead>
</thead><tbody>
</tbody>
Sheet3

Worksheet Formulas
CellFormula
B9=AVERAGE(INDEX(B1:G3,MATCH(A9,A1:A3,0),0))

<thead>
</thead><tbody>
</tbody>

<tbody>
