Hi all. I am new to this forum and hope my first problem is not my last....so to speak :) here is the jist of my problem and i really really look forward to someone being able to help me!

i can add the attachemnts, but i am going to try and "spell" this out as best i can because i am not able to replicate my problem 100% of the time. go figure even though the process remains the same, the results are sometimes different...lol

i started this process a year plus ago and was orgianlly doing it in excel 2003. we have recently moved to 2007 some couple of months ago.

i have a workbook (call it WB1). in this workbook, i have some 20 worksheets (call them WS1-WS20). this file SHOULD only be mabye 100k max but is acutally 400k+. i am ok with this file size as it's only ONE file.

now everyday i run a process against my WB1. my macro takes each worksheet > WS4 and then A) coppies it into a whole NEW workbook and then saves that NEW workbook as it's worksheet's name. So, if i coppied WS7 then the new workbook it created with WS7 would be called WS7.

at anyrate, each NEW workbook it creates also becomes friggin bloated to 400k+. as you can guess, this starts to add up FAST!.

i have tried to right click on one of the WS's in the WB1, copy, put into new workbook and save it manually and i get a file that is either 16k or 400k.

WHAT THE ????!!!:mad: I KNOW the files should be between 10k and 25k but they are now ALL coming out to be 400k+.

part of my vba code that i use to copy/paste is listed below. i created a brand new workbook this year and re-coppied all the data in it to try and get rid of my bloating but alas, same problem.

anyone got any ideas? oh, sorry i am not sure how to seperate the code below so that it looks like code vs a post...

For Each wkSheet In CurWkbook.Worksheets
If wkSheet.Index < 4 Then
'do nothing
Else
shtcnt(1) = (6)

wkSheetName = Trim(wkSheet.Name) 'get name of worksheet
wkSheetName = wkSheetName & " " & dtimestamp 'add date stamp to worksheet name
Set newWkbook = ActiveWorkbook
Application.DisplayAlerts = False

On Error Resume Next
On Error GoTo 0

CurWkbook.Activate
CurWkbook.Worksheets(wkSheet.Name).Copy
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=xpathname & wkSheetName & ".xlsx" ', FileFormat:=51
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
ActiveWorkbook.Save
ActiveWorkbook.Close
End If
Next wkSheet

Application.StatusBar = False 'return control to Excel

For Each ws In Worksheets
ws.Activate
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
Next ws
Sheets("checks-n-balances").Select
Sheets("checks-n-balances").Range("A1").Select

Application.ScreenUpdating = True

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Were there any other subs you wanted to show us?
It seems there are some subs missing.
Can we take a look at those too, please?

Oaktree -- thanks for gretting. i will take a look at that sheet and try all the mentioned ideas. not sure if anything will work, but at this point i got nothing else TO try. the pickle is that i started from scratch and wrote this book much like one i had not to long ago. both books have similar content and are similar in size.....who knows, maybe i have a fat page with a LOT of useless crap on it....

kpark91 -- the sub i showed you is the sub that CREATES the problem...that sub coppies and pastes each sheet into a new workbook which then saves itself. each one of these new sheets is then also 400k+ in size. i don't know that i can upload the workbook "as-is" due to the info on it, but if Oaktree's link idea fails, then i will remove all data or replace it with crap and upload it.

ok, i tried something NEW. i took the advice of the website to see if i could find where my bloat may be. YOU guys be the judge! Here is a breakdown.

In my workbook, i have 21 worksheets + 1 hidden sheet.

i will give you my starting size, then delete a sheet, then tell you the new size as well as how big that sheet was ( ).

My file size to start with is 746,778.

After I deleted sheet1, my file size was 715,704. After I deleted sheet 2, my file size was 685,016 and so on. I had to un-hide my hidden sheet before i could delete sheet 21. i deleted sheet 21, added a new BLANK sheet, and then deleted my "hidden" sheet.

This left me with one worksheet and it was brand spaken new with NOTHING on it and no other sheets in this workbook. 460k left over. each one of my workbooks i create using my before mentioned macro should be the file size you see below in the 3rd column, however in reality, they are all showing up as 420-440k EACH! i am baffled! :confused:

Maybe you have a template file that's being used for new workbooks or worksheets?
What happens if you create a brand new worksheet and then copy it to a new workbook? Is it also 400Kb?

It's actually kind of strange that your workbook with nothing in it, at the end of the exercise above, is still so big.

ok, i created a BRAND spanking new workbook. saved it as book1.xlsx. file size is 7k. i opened it up, right clicked sheet 1, copy to new workbook , saved new workbook as book2. book2 = 7k.

just for grins, i opened my big workbook and tried the same test. sheet 3 (was 6k when i deleted it) is now 420k. i also noticed when i did the copy-paste in new workbook that it laggged big time on the copy.

It's actually kind of strange that your workbook with nothing in it, at the end of the exercise above, is still so big.

yeah, i am at my witts end. i have asked my IT guys in my office and they all kinda look at me like "deer in headlights" look. i am going to try one other thing. it was suggested that instead of copping the whole sheet, that i just copy the range of used data. by doing this, i limit the dynamic ablity of my routine, but i would be interested to see if this "fixes" my problem. i will post my results here in a bit.

i added the following right after CurWkbook.activate. this works like a charm even though i think it to be a bit "slopopier" :-\ i would much rather do a sheet copy vs. a range copy but the difference is HUGE. old way creates a file 400k+. this way below creates a file30k. yeah...

Range("A1:I1000").Copy
Workbooks.Add
ActiveSheet.Paste
Columns("B:B").ColumnWidth = 15
Columns("C:C").ColumnWidth = 34

With ActiveSheet.PageSetup
.PrintTitleRows = ""
.PrintTitleColumns = ""
End With
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = ""

With ActiveSheet.PageSetup
.Orientation = xlLandscape
End With

There wouldn't happen to be images, shapes, or buttons or anything of that nature in your worksheets, would there? We should be able to generalize your solution just a bit more - are all the sheets the same size or is A1:I1000 simply a large enough size to cover all your data (and then some)?
