I want to be able to search different columns that have texts and numbers which display only those rows that contain those categories. The columns are labeled by "#/Area/Name/Sector/Type/Value($)/Date" I was hoping someone could help me understand how to input a proper code that would make this possible. I am somewhat new to Excel so would appreciate a step by step

Excel Facts

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
DKM,

Welcome to the MrExcel forum.

What version of Excel are you using?

Could you post a sample of your raw data, and your results?

To post your data, you can download and install one of the following two programs:
Excel Jeanie
MrExcel HTML Maker

Or, when using Internet Explorer, just put borders around your data in Excel and copy those cells into your post.

If you are not able to give us screenshots:
You can upload your workbook to Box Net,

sensitive data scrubbed/removed/changed

mark the workbook for sharing
and provide us with a link to your workbook.

I want to be able to search any of the text in the columns...there are more than just these but its an example. Also, for the dates and $ categories I need to be able to search a range, e.g. May, 2005 - March, 2012 or $40-$90. I tried making a filter at the top but not sure how to make ranges which searching other things such as project # or project name. Any way this can be done on Excel?

Not sure if I explained everything detailed enough when I input text and ranges I would like the search to only display those rows that have that content. e.g. (area) Alberta, (sector) health care, (type of construction) lump sum, (final contract value (M)) $10-$25 = Children;s Hospital Parkade. If someone could help me understand a way to achieve this it would be greatly appreciated.

DKM,

We could use Advanced Filter with a Criteria area and an Extract area, with some command buttons. You would will in the Criteria area with your search information, and click on a command button to get the data you want, and the data from your DATA worksheet would populate your SEARCH worksheet.

You are posting a picture. This means that if this was a problem where one needed to use your data, anyone trying to help you would have to enter the data manually. That makes no sense and I doubt that you would get any answer.
