I have a weekly feed with lots of stock codes.

I want to produce a daily table with the top 10 most active codes without disturbing the data.

I presume this can be done with the large function with one of the count functions?

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
First create a list of all the codes that appear. You can do this by taking a full copy of all that appear in your feed, then showing unique values only. Once you have your list of codes. use the Count function to count how many times each appears in the feed. Then sort by largest. That is one way to do it?

Not sure this will quite work.

In column A, this contains a week worth of dates say 1-7 December 2013
In column B, this had the item with its stock code next to it.

In a separate table with date across the top and top 10 vertically down the side, I want it to tell me the top 10 most active item.

Could this be a combo of match, index, large, countif

Would this be the same if I added a third column to query containing value?

Either try to rebuild the set up the link contains in order to grasp and adapt it to your lay-out or post a scaled-down sample for a Top 3 output along with the required output lay-out.

try using conditional formatting. . .

goto conditional formating --> top bottom rules --> top 10. .
