Hi all

I have a workbook which I opened last night and saved as usual. Yhis morning when I tried to open the same workbook, I get a message saying the file is locked for editing, with the option of opening read only or notify when ready for access. Whichever option I choose, excel performs an illegal operation and closes down.

Any ideas on how to gain access to this important file would be much appreciated

Hi Aaron

I have tried what you suggest, but to no avail, still comes up as "locked for editing

Excel Facts

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
The only other thing I could suggest as a last ditch resort is to try opening the file with a completely different application (perhaps MS Word).

Granted, you don't get spreadsheet functionality but you might at least be able to salvage some data.

Good Luck!
