I am trying to streamline a data entry project and would like to learn how to fill a fixed amount of cells based upon a value that I enter into a specific cell from a dropdown list. I am not overly familiar with Excel’s terminology for what it is I would like to do, so I am having trouble figuring out what to do first.
I have 21 football positions, each with their own 12 statistics tracked. I want to be able to select the position of the player from the dropdown list, and then have Excel change the 12 values for my “headers” to the values that correspond to the stats I will input manually for that player’s position. I want to do it this way so that I don’t have to retype the statistical headers every time I add a new player to track.
For Example:
My player’s position will be in cell D3. His statistics headers would be in cells E4 through P4. When I pick a position for D3, E4 through P4 will change accordingly.
I’m not sure how to give a cell a dropdown list at the same time as a formula linking the other cells to go off what is selected in D3.
How do I go about inputting the data in some cells elsewhere so that I can reference it for the headers? Does it matter if the reference data is in rows? (I.E. AA1 is position,AB1-AM1 are the statistics headers) Or should it be inputted as a column? (I.E. AA1 is position, AA2-AA13 are the statistics headers)
