I have a column where email ids are typed.
now although the email ids filled may be bogus, I just need to validate that there is a @ and . in the cell
So if the @ and one dot is missing from the cell the entry should be rejected and an error message pop ( like we have in data validation )

For really simple validation, I just use the custom formula data validation tool with this formula (Shown checking cell A1)

=ISNUMBER(MATCH("*@*.*",A1,0))

It uses wildcards (*) around the "@" and "."
