Need formulated cells to stay blank

How do I keep a cell blank if the cell contains a DATE calculating formula ""=DATE(LEFT(A2,4),MID(A2,6,2),RIGHT(A2,2))"" but the cell being referenced has no data? What I would like is to keep the formula in every cell of the column but I don't want the error code, or ""December-09"" the date that I keep getting, to pop-up.

The formula you posted wouldn't give that result with a date in A2.

This would:

=if(a2 = "", "", edate(a2, 12))
