my excel workbook says it's locked for editing by "userxx" but that user doesn't have it open.

is there a way to force the workbook to close

using Windows 10
Microsoft office 365

The user may have it open through a data connection.
Otherwise, the file was not completely closed and saved by the OS before you opened it. This may need a restart of any or all the computers that have a connection to the file, including the computer the file resides on...

ok thanks SpillerBD I will give it a try tomorrow AM as the file it resides on is a Qnap and many users use it during the day.
