Dashed plots for large number of points

Posted by mike on December 28, 2001 2:36 PM

I need to make dashed XY plots with rows count to
more than 20,000 points.
The problem is with these many points, when I tried
to make dashed-line plots, excel plots them with
solid lines (because too many points crammed together).
I wonder if I could selectively plot, say every 100 points in one column, this way there will be less points to plot.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Mike
Sounds heavy, best i would do is cheat, plot every other data point >>>rows count to
more than 20,000 points.>>>> would make 10,000 so would that notice if you get my drift, still a line i guess but readable, or try 7500 point and see why it looks i would be surprised if anyone noticed a few missing as the eye would be deceived, and graphy are for ease of reading to give a picture, to hardcore data fixed reporting.

How to plot every other data point

Jack,
Thanks for your suggestion.
That's what I'd like to do, too.
I wonder if you or somebody else can tell how
to plot every data point.
Thanks.

Re: How to plot every other data point

Hi --
What i would do is adjust your sorce data for the graph to enclude every other row data or column data, i guess you have in table format, but if 20,000 rows??? thats down to 10,000

Ok how to do this!

I guess you select the whole data in the row, but now need to only select 1 in 2 rows data. Best not manual so nee VBA script to copy over the data to new SS called say Graph_Data so it can be updated and you keep the original SS as is and all you do is add data as normal the only change is the NEW SS which control the graph.

OK ill work on some script to do this and post ASAP stay on this feed.
