Data labels on charts

Here is a good one!

I have a basic column chart showing only one data series but I need the data labels to be a different set of values to the data plotted. Don't ask!

I've tried adding the labels as a second data series and making their bar transparent but this looks rubbish.

Anybody got any bright ideas?

Funny you should ask...

...because I was working on this very thing last
night. I wanted a way to add comments that "moved"
with a given data point. Here's how...

Just click on the data label twice to edit the
text value. Click on the formula bar, type
an equal sign (=), and then click on the cell
that contains the value that you want displayed.
Do this for every data point.
