How to use paste special? Need date( =today() ) xfrd by value 2 anthr wrkbk..

Anyone care to advise me on how this seemingly simple task can be done? I can't get it to work, I'm getting 1900 dates, today's(when should be last week), etc.
Can I transfer the date using this =today()function?

:Make sure source cell and target cell are date formatted i.e. dd/mm/yyyy
:Enter =TODAY()in source cell (this will enter current date). Highlight cell select Edit,Copy - go
:to target cell and select Edit,Paste Special,Value-enter. That should work
