If I have three cells A1,B1,C1 under which I place prices of five goods from
suppliers in A2-6, B2-6 and C2-6, and then in cells D2-6 i place the =MIN
command to pick the lowest of the three for each of the five goods.
How can I create a lookup function to look at D2-6 and then pick out the
name of the lowest supplier from the range A1-C1 and place the name in E2-6?

Given your Data then in E2 place this formula in
and copy down.
=LOOKUP(D2,A2:C2,A$1:C$1)
