Fixed columns width no matter what pivot table data comes in
Posted by Nona Sloven on April 26, 2001 11:46 AM
Hi.
I have a pivot table in Excel’97. I have seen that it is an annoyance when you change data in a pivot table and Excel causes the column widths to change too. This same nuisance occurs when you refresh the pivot table. This ends up embarrassing all of your formating causing a mess. Is there a way to tell Excel not to change column widths when data suffers width variations or when you refresh your pivot table? Is there is a way, please help. Your assistance will be appreciated.

Nona, apply a number format to the DATA area of your
PivotTable that pads the numeric value with a sufficient
number of leading spaces.

You can get even better results...

...if you format the PivotTable ROW and/or COLUMN
labels using @" " as a format. Of course,
you'll want to adjust the length of the string of
spaces to get the desired fixed column width.
