Pivot tables - "Too many column items"

What is the max. # of column items in a pivot table? I am trying to display 5 and I get the above message.
Is there any way around this?
I am not displaying any subtotals.

Thanks.

5 fields or 5 items? If fields, how many items
per field?

My apologies.
5 fields. Each field contains between 1 and 6 items. (Most of the fields contain either 1 or 2 items.)
The usefulness of this particular pivot table comes from seeing data on 5 (maybe 6) fields as the page field is changed. These 5 or 6 fields are heirarchical in nature, and really need to be viewed together as column fields.

Hmmm...

This doesn't seem to be excessive! Have you tried
to create the PivotTable with fewer fields, and
then modify it to include all 5 fields?
