Does a macro always have to be "assigned" to a specific spreadsheet?

Hi!

Does a macro always have to be "assigned" or "linked" to a specific spreadsheet? I would like to be able to run the macro on any spreadsheet and not have it also open the original spreadsheet that I wrote it on.

to have a macro available to any workbook on your machine, store it in your personal.xls workbook (usually located in C:\program files\microsoft office\office\xlstart) or create and add-in from the macro
