Auto Filter on input box?

Currently I am using a column to get the first letter of the adjacent column [company names] and then use the filter drop down box to narrow the viewable results to just that letter.
So in a few keystrokes I can filter to all companies that start with the letter "D". But this entails selecting the drop down box, clearing select all, scrolling to the desired letter and checking it.

So I was wondering if there was a way to create an input box where I could just enter a letter and have it automatically do the rest?
any ideas?

Sorry I am confused by "Start With". Your code was allowing me to search column c for a given criteria. I was trying to change it to column a instead.
Column c is al characters while column a is all numbers. I can move the focus of your code to any Column with charterers and it works, but not on column a - so I thought that numbers were the issue. I need to search the list for specific 4 digit #'s.

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
Then simply remove the &"*"

WOW... tks.

Just curios, when this runs it adds the chevrons on the columns for the auto filter drop down menu's. Is there some way not to?
