Conditional Formatting - Highlighting calendar dates

Hi there: I'm having difficulty trying to figure out conditional formatting. It's probably simple, but I just can't get the rules laid out properly to work for me.

I have a calendar on the right side of my spreadsheet. I highlight the whole month.

I have 3 columns on the left of the spreadsheet: 'Start date', 'End date', and 'Availability'. I want to be able to type in under 'Availability', either 'pending' or 'booked', and have the calendar dates change to yellow for 'pending', or red for 'booked'. I can get the conditional formatting to change the calendar color on the 'to'-'from' range, but don't know how to make that happen by typing in the 'availability' column.

Can someone point out a fix for this, please.

Thanks

Hopefully, this will work.
