Copy and paste Hours and Minutes turns into a date time

I have a document that calculates hours worked for each employee. It then totals all of those hours and minutes. My problem is this: Let's say them total for the day was 111 hours and 6 minutes. The format for the cell is [HH:mm] So then the cell value is 111:06

However, when I copy and paste the cell with the 111:06 to another cell that is formatted with the same [HH:mm] it shows up in the cell as 111:06 but the actual cell value is 1/4/1900 3:06:00 PM

Obviously I cannot compare any other value, time or otherwise to the 1/4/1900 3:06:00 PM

Is there any way to copy and paste or let one cell equal the other and have it remain as time only?

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
timlh42,

I think you will find that excel will always consider time this way and there should be no reason why you could not compare this to time value to another.
Is there a further calculation that you are trying to do that isn't working?

I am just trying to put a manual time entry in one cell and compare the copied cell to it but it doesn't recognize it as the same format.
