Create maps from data in Excel 2007?

Hi all.

Long time, no see... How are you all keeping? :)

I'm running a (relatively) simple set of reports in Excel, and I'd like to add some maps to the data. Basically, the data values are for 14 regions of our local geographic area, and I'd like to map the quartiles of these values onto a simple map so people can easily see how their area is doing compared to its neighbours.

Is there a simple way to do this? Are there any add-ins* I need? Or any workarounds you'd suggest? We have MapInfo installed on another machine, so we can do them manually if needs be (it's not a huge job, but I'd like to automate if possible).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
