Data Labels - How to have label move with data

I have a chart based on two columns of data - % of total and the actual dollars. I have the chart show the bars as a % of total. However, my data labels point to the actual dollars so these are based on a formula reference to the cells containing that data. This is referencing a pivot table so when the pivot table change (i.e. change the region that will display on the graph) the data labels do not move. So one data label may be high on the graph, but the data is now at the bottom.

Any suggestions?

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Actually, rather than deleting your question, write up how you solved it. Then some future user might find your question in a search, and have your answer right there.
