I need some help, i have been scouring for an answer on this one and i have hit a wall.

Here is my question, buckle up and hopes i can explain it right.

I have 2 work books. One contains job titles that come from a database in its own format - Call it book1. The second workbook has my master data location and 5 cells after with data needed for a person (book2).

I need to take the job title from book1, and match it to my master in book2 (totally different formats).

Then I need to take the information of book2 job title and replace it into book1 job title.

If i can do this, then i can use a vlookup to add the other data i need in.

Can someone help?

Thanks in advance

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Re: Need Help Matching different Columns to get data.

1. Are you saying that you want to ...
replace
953 - Cook
...
953 - really long job title
with
FT Seasonal - Cook 905300
...
really long job title - seasonal 0905300

2. Could you not simply add column D?

3. is the 953 \ 905300 a coincidence or something that can be used?
(ie would we expect 867 in book1 to match 806700 in book2? can this pattern be relied on?)

4. The job titles in book2 are inconsistent

- why is seasonal ("really long job title" ) not PT Seasonal or FT Seasonal?
- why does seasonal appear after "really long job title" when the others are before

5. Getting the correct value
- how do you know if 953 - Cook should be FT Seasonal - Cook 905300 or PT Seasonal - Cook 905300 if both appear in book 2?
