I'm trying to use the regression add-in to forecast future sales. I have a number of variables which are text like east, west, north, south. I'm hoping to show the relationship (if one exists) between future sales and East, West, North, South, but I can't figure out how to do this in excel.

Only workaround I have come up with is to convert the locations to numbers so east = 1, west = 2, north = 3, south = 4. This doesn't really work though unless I maybe order the locations by average sales ascending? so that as number increases I could see the relationship?

Any suggestions on how I can do work with text variables using excel forecast regression analysis? I don't have access to expensive software like SPSS which I know can work with text inputs.
