Using VLookup to return multiple values

Good afternoon everyone in Excel land.

I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible or not, but here goes...

Our sales manager wants to be able to enter a size of inventory (tires) in to an .xlsx that I've built her and have it return all items we have of that particular size. It could be anywhere from 1 to around 20 or so SKUs that match a particular size. As these are tires, the sizes are very specific, not just "Large" or "Extra Small".

Is there a way to reference that to my master item list and return all lines that match her specified size?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
here is an example of doing that

=IF(ROWS(A$3:A3)>$C$1,"",INDEX(Open!$A$1:$F$22,SMALL(IF(Open!$A$1:$A$22=$B$1,ROW(Open!$A$1:$A$22)),ROW(1:1)),COLUMNS($A2:A2)))
If you're using ROWS(...) and COLUMNS(...) in the highlighted areas why not use it here also:

=IF(ROWS(A$3:A3)>$C$1,"",INDEX(Open!$A$1:$F$22,SMALL(IF(Open!$A$1:$A$22=$B$1,ROW(Open!$A$1:$A$22)),ROWS(A$3:A3)),COLUMNS($A2:A2)))

ROW(...) leaves the formula vulnerable to new row insertions before the referenced range.

ROWS(...) makes it more robust without adding any undue complexity or inefficiency.

In the formulas I use the following named ranges:
  • Size
  • Refers to: =$A$2:$A$15
  • SK_U
  • Refers to: =$B:$B
D2 = some size

Enter this formula in E2. This will return the count of records for the size entered in cell D2.

=COUNTIF(Size,D2)

Enter this array formula** in F2. This will list the SKUs for the size.

=IF(ROWS(F$2:F2)>E$2,"",INDEX(SK_U,SMALL(IF(Size=D$2,ROW(Size)),ROWS(F$2:F2))))

** array formulas need to be entered using the key combination of CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER). Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT key then hit ENTER.

It could be anywhere from 1 to around 20 or so SKUs that match a particular size.
Then copy the formula in F2 down to 20 or so cells.

Biff,

Good question - but this was something I received from Aladin Akyurek and I've never really studied it. 'Cuz if it's not broke don't fix it.

Did I use ROW(1:1)? That would be quite wrong as it's not robust against row insertions in front of the first formula row. Also, if you want to return multi-column records, the following set up would be performance-wise more appropriate...

Let A1:E22 on Sheet1 house the sample you posted, including the headers.

Sheet2...
