Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
Does this do what you want?

=IF(A1 < TODAY(),VLOOKUP(A1,A!A:B,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP(A1,B!A:B,2,FALSE))
<today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))[ html]
<today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))<today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))[ code]<today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))[="" code]<="" html=""></today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))<today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))[></today(),vlookup(a1,a!a:b,2,false),vlookup(a1,b!a:b,2,false))[>
(Remove the spaces around the < - Forum seems to think it's HTML no matter what I do :-/ )
