Conditional Formatting based on names in a list.

I have an issue with conditional formatting

Cell A1 = A
A2 = B
A3 = C
A4 = D

etc

List Cell CA1 = B
CA2 = D
CA3 = F
CA4 = G

I can't get my conditional format to reference the complete list in CA1:CA40 and highlight the cells in A1:A250

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Please help.

Thanks,

okay, so playing around with some things I figured out this works
=AND(COUNTIF(B1:B11,A1)>0,C1<>"")
and will highlight the cell, however, I need the formula to sorta link the name in the list to the cell to the right of it for each individual

So ultimately if I put a name in cell A1 (Jen), the formatting will find the name in column B, if there, (in which it is in B11) then check the cell directly to the right of the name in column B, in this case, C11, and if there is something is their highlight, if not no highlighting.

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
amovertron2,

Since you have a new question that while somewhat similar, is different than the original request, it is best to start a new thread instead of posting to an old thread that is a few years old.
That way, it appears as a new unanswered question on the "Unanswered threads" list, and will be seen by more poeple.
