ihave a cell containg

11A22A11B00000b

how do i count the number of entries in the cell upto the second 'A' or 'B'

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
How about
=SEARCH("A",A2,SEARCH("A",A2)+1)-1

EDIT: I beg your pardon....i completely misunderstanding your request :)

Assuming the cell containing the string to be evaluated is C4 then the formulae is:

Code:
=LEN(MID(MID(MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4));FIND("A";MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4)))+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4))));1;FIND("B";MID(MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4));FIND("A";MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4)))+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";MID(C4;FIND("A";C4)+1;LEN(C4)-FIND("A";C4)))))-1))
