Do the following: Hold down the ALT key and press the F11 key. This will open the Visual Basic Editor. In the left hand pane, double click 'ThisWorkbook'. Copy and paste this macro into the empty code window on the right. Close the code window. Save your workbook as a macro-enabled file and then close it. When you re-open the workbook, the date and time will be in A1 in Sheet1.

Code:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1") = Now()
End Sub
