Don't know why I'm finding this so difficult and search engines don't seem to help. Have spreadsheet with a total for each day.
I want a Line Chart where the totals are on the Y-axis and the week numbers are on the X-axis with one line for Monday, one line for Tuesday, etc. Seven lines in all.
My aim is to show which days of the week have higher totals and see the trend over time.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Thanks, for the link BlueAure. I've tried a Scatter Chart with lines, but haven't got that to work either. Excel seems insistent on plotting the daily totals and the day of week on the Y-axis and the week number on the X-axis.

I have tried every available type of chart without success. I've tried rearranging data (reordering columns, data in rows) without success. I guess this is more difficult than I think it should be.

Found a solution -- ugly, but it works. Created a separate sheet which transferred the totals into a grid: first column as a week-beginning date, then separate columns for each day of the week containing the daily totals. Don't know why Excel can't handle the data better than this; it shouldn't be necessary to create a copy of the data (a lot of tedious work).

I'm happy that you found a solution! I'll be honest, I've always struggled with graphs in Excel too. Why you can't just say "Here are my X's. Here are my Y's" I'll never know.
