Revisiting the Timer Question

Hey Guys,

OK, I was too vague, but I’m still trying to put together a game for the kids in our family. We have 8... err, kids not games. They score points that get recorded. They have to spend chips to get a question. Failed questions cost you life points, and if you have less than 10, you have to wait to regenerate more life before you can continue. We were hoping that if the kids loved it we might be able to put it out as a kid’s game on say … facebook or something. So I was too afraid of somebody grabbing the idea, to be clear. Now, I just want to write the thing for my kids and learn the skills. ;)

* So every 3 min your life goes up a point if it’s under the max. I don’t know how to make a timer add a point to a variable.

* Every 7 minutes you get another chip. Same problem, how to make that number go up until it reaches its’ max.

* Different questions have different scores and some would pay chips if answered within a bonus time limit. So I need the timer for telling me how long a correct answer took.

* Each question costs you an amount of chips to play, but also pays out in points to gain levels and unlock higher tiers of questions. Popping up a level gains you a cookie. Every 2 and half hours your scores are added and divided by a certain amount, and that equals a number of cookies.

* We have different tiers of questions ranging from 8+1, to multiplication, and calculator questions. So I have to work with variables, and I don’t know how to do that in excel, or haven’t figured it out if I do. (Maybe “if” statements to cells?)

We need to use Access to store each kid’s stats, cookies, points, tiers finished and so on. Our kid’s friends are also talking about playing and competing. This would be cool, and I don’t mind making extra cookies. (Yep, they were literal cookies) My wife is trying to learn PHP, but I think for our family, access should work. Opinions would be welcome here.

And thank you in advance for the help.
Bob
