Time - Time = Number formula

Need a formula that will calculate the time (Hours) difference between two values then subtract 1 hour and give a numerical Sum.

Ex.

(A1) Start Time:8:00 AM
(B1) End Time: 5:00 PM
(C1) So the Formula in this cell should show the difference (9 hrs.) between the time in cells A1 & B1 then subtract 1 hr., producing the final value of 8 hrs.

Try

=(B1-A1)*24-1

make sure C1 has the number format!
