I have used the following formula =AND(NOT(ISBLANK($A4)), ISBLANK($E4)blank. to conditionally format a blank cell, when a neighboring cell is not blank. It works as expected, however when I have tried to use the same formula on another sheet, the reverse happens. AR highlights instead of e4. A4 haS a name, & cell E4 has a date on the new sheet. any suggestions?

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
It sounds like the formula is OK but you have the wrong cell in the Applies To field. Go to Conditional Formatting > Manage Rules > This Worksheet and see what cell is under Applies To. It should be $A$4. I'm guessing you will see that it's $E$4.

Thanks for the assistance. It was a combination of what you said & trying to write the formula at he end of the day.
